Town Folk

In the BBCWR we are reenacting a tent city that would follow the military around and set up their tent community when ever time permitted. Among the solder's families you would find laundresses, drinking establishments, sutlers, blacksmiths, churches. Away from camp may have been working girls known as "soiled doves", or "hookers girls". According to legend these women were named after General Joseph Hooker who was one of the first generals to allow the civilians to set up camp near his troops.
